Lancelot Ribeiro: Finding Joy in a Landscape

Burgh House & Hampstead Museum, London, 4 May – 17 December 2023

A journey through the changing landscapes of the Indian expressionist painter Lancelot Ribeiro, from his roots in India to Britain.

Ribeiro experimented extensively with form and materials, moving from conventional depictions of the Lake District to fantastical townscapes and his sharp, bright 'striped' paintings inspired by the geology of North America.

This exhibition is the third appearance of the painter's work at Burgh House, where he exhibited first in 1980 as part of the Indian Artists UK collective. His legacy was recognised, posthumously, in 2016/17 through the Heritage-Funded Retracing Ribeiro project which was launched at Burgh House.
